Your Car's Fuse Box Explained: Everything You Need to Know About The Stuff In Fuse Boxes!
Your car’s fuse box is not just filled with fuses! The fuse box contains relays, diodes, many different types of fuses, and more components that serve the electrical system and protect it from damage.
0:00 Car Fuse Boxes Explained
The automotive fuse box is a hub of protection for the electrical systems in a vehicle.
0:39 What Does a Fuse Do?
Fuses protect circuits and fail when amperage gets too high, so you can replace an easy-to-access and inexpensive fuse rather than whatever expensive part it was protecting!
2:15 What Does a Relay Do?
Relays allow a small current to control a large current. Many switches and computers don’t like high amperage, so the relay handles it for them!
3:30 What Does a Diode Do?
A diode only allows current to flow in one direction, protecting components that would be damaged by current travelling in the wrong direction.
4:10 How do You Find The Right Fuse, Relay, or Diode?
Finding the right fuse, relay, or diode is an important step in troubleshooting a circuit/electronic item’s issue. There are two main ways to find them, and the best way will differ from vehicle to vehicle.
5:12 How to Remove a Fuse or Relay
Removing a fuse can often be done with a fuse puller, but needle nose pliers also work well. Relays can be a bit tougher, but a dedicated pair of relay pulling pliers can help tremendously!
6:11 Why are There Empty Spaces in the Fuse Box?
Are you missing fuses? Those empty spots may be there on purpose! Sometimes they are there to allow for future-proofing, but other times it’s just where a feature would be fused if the vehicle came with that feature.
6:51 Bonus: Less Common Fuse Box Information!
This section contains information about breakers, fusible links, in-line fuse holders, fuse blocks, and more!

Why use a fusible link instead of a fuse?
A fusible link deals with excessive amperage differently than a fuse does. Quick moments of high amperage/current are allowed to happen, but if the amperage is high for too long, or way too high, the fusible link melts/burns away, disconnecting the circuit like a fuse would. Many fusible links are the last bit of wire before the circuit grounds to the chassis.

How do you remove the Jcase fuses example a 40amp fuse
Thanks for the explanation! Particularly throwing light on wires leading up to fuse box, which I have never seen anyone discussing. So I understand that fuse taps are always a gamble, given that no manual says the amperage of wires leading up to fuse box. My thought is that it might be safer to put a fuse tap for a new circuit of 2A on a 10A existing fuse line than a 2or 5A. Because intuitively, wire leading up to 10A line might withstand 15A which can very well contain the 10 and new 2. But a 2A existing line might have been designed only for 3A or 4A, which is already high or borderline.
Excellent video and very informative.
This was amazing, thank you!
Thanks for that complete video.
I have a question.
How can I match a fuse in a car fuse box and its wire ?
In other words, how can I identify the wire that caries an identified fuse ?
Hi i’m a lady also can you tell me if we unplug the battery before we check the fuses? When I turn off my car the cooling fan keeps running for about another 5 to 10 minutes on its on. Do you have any suggestions for an 2008, chev. hhr 2.L engine please? thanks for the video, Ty
Please show us how to SAFELY pull those darn Subaru relays that are level with its socket. 😡
Is it possible for the box to be bad where the relay goes into?
My low beams aren’t working I pulled the relay tested relay it works. Put needle nose to the contacts and no spark
I did same w high beams and they turned on and sparked
I got three different LED kits. Do i just connect them all to the same wire to the fuse tap? What about the ground cant i just connect them to the same wire?
Thanks a lot
Is it bad to put a 4-pin relay in a 5-pin relay slot in the fuse box? I accidentally placed a 4-pin relay into a 5-pin relay slot for my fuel pump. The car still runs fine, just wondering if I caused any internal issues, not obvious to the naked eye.
How can know computer fault?
Why are some of the fuses like square blocks?
The fuse box in my car is extremely dusty, like you can barely read anything on it. Should I try to clean it and how?
Question, without the relay in the fuse box I am get 12v in 87 with the key on and nothing on 30 is that correct?
Show me to set up to a 2009 fuel panel box
Dude that was the best video I’ve ever seen.
Why don’t Tesla have a fuse box
Can I get an F in the chat for those fuses that were shorted out for slow motion B-roll footage? Also, here are some related videos:

Excellent presentation. Quality video and sound.😀😀
Good video, but currently am doing my diploma in automotive engineering and I study auto electrical for my own knowledge. My question is how can you help me in this area because have managed to finish certificate course content own my own with the help of different good books.
Great video! I have one question – Is a control box and a relay the same thing?
What if I use a fused tap on an empty circuit?
Hii
My Toyota Sequoia 2018 I have an extra LED light and stopped working so my electric garage he checked it and replaced small fuse and once I got home I used the LED light then my car shaped and shut off. I started back and I smelled electric burn and fuse box was damaged.
arg you didnt show how to pull the second to smallest fuse
Too complicated. If m modifying only my lights if my bike just take out one fuse and no need to disconnect the battery.Simple but cars omg this is too much. It seems everything running dc.
What happens if you accidentally get water in a fuse box, how would you go about fixing it

Thx for the info I have a 2013.ext cadillac the bottom day light bulbs not working on both sides I’ve changed the bulbs and fuses still not working is there a way to check the wiring without changing the whole box need help thx
Thank You for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.. Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste.. 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ ☮ ❤

Would you know how to fix a loose 20-amp blade fuse that won’t fit tightly in the fuse box?

Great vid… Thanks!
This was great. You went into great detail but still managed to do it in a 10 min video. Also the video quality was fantastic. Good job
I want to put a led strip under the hood of a 2016 CTs what is a good fuse to tap into and also most videos I’ve watched shows using the fuse tap ! And also the led has a inner fuse so do I add a fuse along with the pulled fuse
Hi, i have a question. I have a few dead slots on my fuse box. One of those is for my break lights, and they’re not working. I have power to the tail lights, and i believe that bulb shares with the break light. What would i do about fixing that? Thank You
Really good vid, thanks
I’m a lady and we’re not supposed to know anything about vehicles that your video was so plain easy understand I thank you so much. I fixed my car with your help.
Out of topic question. Can you wire up the blower motor to start working with the key in the accessory possition? Since keeping the car in the on position for a long time isnt very good instead you just want the heater to work and nothing else.
Why my Vehicle Spare fuse Slot has Metal Connection like other live Slots on the fuse box?
Hii
